Akrotiri is a town on the island of Santorini. Located 15 km south of Fira (capital of the island), it is a town with more than 3600 years of history. Akrotiri is know also for its archaelogical site, one of the best conserved of the Minoan Civilization. The ancient Akrotiri was destroyed by the volcano eruption of Thera/Santorini, that devastated the island of Santorini (and gave its actual shape) and Minoan Civilization. The modern Akrotiri has been built around the ruins of 13th-Century castle of Akrotiri.
